Port Oostende further strengthens its position in blue economy
New project on heavy weight terminal REBO
Port Oostende is taking another step in its position as a crucial link in the blue economy by supporting the wind farm project off the coast of Le Tréport in France. As from week 48, DEME will supply stones through Port Oostende. They will occupy 2 hectares at the REBO terminal for this purpose.
The project involves the supply of nearly 100 000 tonnes of stones from Norway, which will be prepared and re-dispatched via Port Oostende. These stones are essential for anchoring the towers (monopiles) of wind turbines.
In the past, Port Oostende mainly focused on projects within the Belgian part of the North Sea. However, future projects in the Princess Elisabeth zone, for which Port Oostende is currently preparing, are still several years away. With the wind farm project off the coast of Le Tréport, Port Oostende is now also taking further steps on an international level in the field of offshore wind energy.
These developments confirm the strategic position of Port Oostende within the blue economy and its role as a logistics hub for offshore wind energy projects in the North Sea. The collaboration highlights Port Oostende's commitment to sustainable energy solutions and strengthens its position in the Flemish port landscape. Moreover, it further supports the REBO terminal's reorientation from an offshore wind terminal to a multipurpose heavy lift terminal.
"With this project, we confirm our strategic position within the blue economy. Our infrastructure and expertise make Port Oostende a crucial partner for offshore wind energy projects, both in Belgium and internationally."
"Port Oostende is continuously committed to growing activities, with a special focus on the blue economy and the niche markets we focus on. Such projects strengthen our port and create additional jobs."
