New Assembly of VIGAN Cranes Confirms Success of REBO Terminal

At the heavy-lift terminal REBO in Port Oostende, two cranes by VIGAN, one of the world’s leading manufacturers of unloading equipment, were assembled again during the summer. The structures, each weighing 150 tonnes, were loaded onto a vessel over the weekend and shipped on 13 October 2025 to their final destination, Benghazi, Libya. As in 2023, the logistical process was carried out in collaboration with Manora Logistics.

After assembly, the cranes were shipped in three large components aboard the cargo vessel Hammarland. For this logistical operation, employees of Port Oostende’s subsidiary MultiTech were deployed, complemented by the expertise of OSSCO, ensuring a fully integrated turnkey solution.

VIGAN is globally recognised for its pneumatic and mechanical conveying systems for bulk goods. The fact that the company once again chose the REBO terminal for the assembly and shipment of such installations underlines the site’s suitability for large and heavy equipment.

Since Port Oostende became the full owner of REBO nv in 2019, the site has been transformed from an offshore wind terminal into a multifunctional heavy-lift terminal. In addition to the assembly of large-scale installations, the terminal can be used for maintenance, overhaul and dismantling of wind turbines, handling and shipping of heavy constructions and breakbulk cargo, vessel mobilisation and demobilisation, and lift-on/lift-off operations.

Charlotte Verkeyn, President of Port Oostende, emphasises: “With this project, we once again demonstrate that the REBO terminal is a major asset for Port Oostende. Here, we combine expertise, flexibility and infrastructure that are unique in Belgium. The fact that international players such as VIGAN and their partners choose Ostend confirms our role as a driving force within the blue economy.”
