Ban on water sports and water abstraction in the Port of Oostende

Due to the presence of blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) in the canal, Houtdok and Vlotdok, a ban is in force on all water sports activities and the abstraction of water for any purpose. This measure has been taken to safeguard the health and safety of all water users.

This ban applies to the water surface of the canal, Houtdok and Vlotdok within the Port Oostende harbour area from 9 July 2026 until water samples confirm the absence of blue-green algae.
