Safe Henk brings safety policy Port Oostende to the attention

"No cowboys at work in Port Oostende!" This is the slogan with which Port Oostende brings its safety policy to the attention. To make the message clear to staff, visitors and port users, Port Oostende developed a campaign with their safety mascot Safe Henk.
Those who now have an appointment in the port building in the Slijkensesteenweg will pass the Safe Henk safety wall when entering. 12 cartoons of safety mascot Safe Henk point out various health and safety topics to the collaborators and visitors.

The original cartoons are given a prominent place in the main entrance of the port building because Safety, Health and Environment are our main priorities. We are working hard to develop a corporate culture in which the safety and health of the people who work in our port area always come first. Through all kinds of actions, we want to embed the attention for Safety, Health and Environment in the DNA of Port Oostende.

Through on-the-job training, toolbox meetings and training, Port Oostende sensitizes its collaborators to pay attention to a safe working environment on a daily basis. Monthly work is done around one specific theme. Safe Henk was set up to bring these themes in a light-hearted way. Cowboy Henk works in Port Oostende but is absolutely not a cowboy there. Through funny cartoons Safe Henk draws attention to specific situations.

Safe Henk

One of the most important automatisms we teach our collaborators is to report unsafe situations. In this way, risky situations are detected, dealt with and the risk of accidents is reduced. The collaboration with cartoonist Herr Seele has grown spontaneously. Herr Seele understands what Port Oostende is aiming at and actively thinks along with us about how our collaborators will remember the safety messages.

Port Oostende

Port Oostende focuses on continuity, growth and employment within five pillars: Blue Economy, Bulk & Project Cargo, Cruises & Roll-on-roll-off, Circular Industry and the Fisheries Sector. These sectors are further expanded on the basis of two foundations: priority setting of safety, health and environment and second supporting innovation and development.
